Acts of Devotion: After the hermitage was disbanded by Pope Pius IV, Benedict joined the Franciscan Friars Minor Conventual as a lay brother, working as a cook in their monastery in Palermo. Despite his illiteracy and humble position, his profound spiritual wisdom, humility, and miracles of healing led him to be elected superior, a role he fulfilled with extraordinary grace and leadership. He often distributed monastery food to the poor, trusting in divine providence to replenish their stores.
