Saint Agatha is the patron saint of bellmakers, breast disease, fire prevention, and nurses.



Feast day: February 5

Saint Agatha is primarily known as a virgin martyr who was persecuted for her Christian faith in 3rd century Sicily. She is also known for her patronage of breast cancer patients, rape victims, wet nurses, and those who suffer from fires or volcanic eruptions.

Virgin Martyr:
Agatha, a young woman of noble birth, consecrated her virginity to God and refused the advances of a Roman official, Quintianus. This led to her persecution and martyrdom.

Patron Saint of Breast Cancer:
Due to the torture she endured, where her breasts were cut off, she is considered a powerful intercessor for those with breast cancer.

Patron Saint of Rape Victims:
Agatha was also sent to a brothel and subjected to violence, leading to her being a patron saint for those who have experienced sexual assault.

Patron Saint of Wet Nurses:
Her story also includes a vision of St. Peter healing her wounds, leading to her patronage of wet nurses, who provide nourishment and care.

Protection Against Fire:
She is also invoked for protection against fires and volcanic eruptions, particularly in Sicily, due to her intercession during a Mount Etna eruption.
