Forgiveness:
Her most famous act was forgiving her attacker, Alessandro Serenelli, before she died. This act of forgiveness had a profound impact on Serenelli, who later converted to Catholicism.

Maria Goretti died as a result of injuries sustained during the attack, and her death is recognized as martyrdom because she died defending her chastity.

Patron Saint:
She is the patron saint of purity, young women, rape victims, and children.
