Early Life & Calling: St. Paula was born into a wealthy Roman senatorial family in 347 AD, married Toxotius, and had five children. After the death of her husband, she was profoundly drawn to an ascetic life, influenced by figures like St. Marcella and St. Jerome, and decided to dedicate herself and her considerable fortune to God. This spiritual awakening led her to forsake her aristocratic lifestyle for intense study and devotion.

Acts of Devotion: Paula embarked on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Egypt, visiting holy sites and establishing hospices for travelers. She settled in Bethlehem with her daughter Eustochium, where she founded a monastery for men, four convents for women, and a hospice, personally overseeing their management and contributing her wealth to their upkeep. She was a crucial assistant to St. Jerome in his translation of the Vulgate Bible, acting as a scribe, researcher, and critic, demonstrating exceptional linguistic and scholarly abilities.

Historical Impact: St. Paula's legacy endures through her profound commitment to monasticism, her role in the preservation and translation of sacred texts, and her extensive charitable works.
