Early Life & Calling: Born in Lystra, Asia Minor, to a Greek father and Jewish mother, Eunice, who, along with his grandmother Lois, taught him the Holy Scriptures from infancy. He met Saint Paul during his second missionary journey, was converted and became Paul's most trusted disciple and companion, journeying with him throughout much of his ministry.
Acts of Devotion: Timothy served as an apostolic delegate for Paul, often sent to churches to deliver messages and strengthen the faithful, and was a co-author on several of Paul's epistles. He was later appointed the first Bishop of Ephesus, overseeing the burgeoning Christian community there. Tradition holds he was martyred in Ephesus for opposing a pagan procession and idol worship.
Historical Impact: As the recipient of two epistles from St. Paul, now integral to the New Testament, Timothy's life and ministry offer profound insights into early Christian leadership and pastoral care. His example continues to inspire youthful dedication to faith, humble service, and courageous witness within the Church.
A House of Saints Prayer: Oh Blessed Saint Timothy, You who walked with the greatest of teachers, lend your gentle strength to our young ones, that they may find their true path and grow in faith. For those who guide our flocks, pour wisdom into their hearts, like cool water in the desert. Heal our bodies and spirits, and make us steadfast in our devotion. Amen.
