St. Thomas

🕯 Feast Day: July 3
St. Thomas supports architects, builders, carpenters, masons, and all those who wrestle with doubt. This Retablo would be a meaningful gift for someone starting a new construction project, laying the foundations of a home or career, or struggling to find certainty in their faith journey. It reminds us that even profound doubt can lead to a deeper understanding and a more personal relationship with the divine, encouraging perseverance and honest inquiry in all endeavors. It celebrates the wisdom found in careful examination and the strength in building something lasting, whether in stone or spirit.

Early Life & Calling: St. Thomas, known as Didymus (the Twin), was one of the twelve Apostles chosen by Jesus Christ. While little is known of his life before his calling, he was present during Christ's ministry and showed both courage and a pragmatic nature, as seen in his willingness to die with Jesus before the raising of Lazarus.

Acts of Devotion: Thomas is most famously known for his initial doubt regarding Christ's resurrection, demanding to see and touch the wounds before believing, leading to the phrase "doubting Thomas." After witnessing the risen Christ, he declared, "My Lord and my God!" He later undertook extensive missionary journeys, traveling as far as India where he established communities of believers and was ultimately martyred by a spear.

Historical Impact: St. Thomas remains a profound figure for his honest questioning that led to a powerful affirmation of faith, offering solace to those who struggle with belief. His legendary missionary work in India established one of the oldest Christian communities in the world, the Saint Thomas Christians, ensuring his enduring legacy as a foundational evangelist.

A House of Saints Prayer: Oh, St. Thomas, beloved twin, you who walked with the Lord and sought truth with your own hands. Guide us, a mi gente, in our honest doubts and sturdy labors. May our faith be built strong like adobe, brick by brick, firm against the winds, and may we see the Lord in every detail of creation, just as you saw Him resurrected.
